- Best Overall: Chili will be judged according to 5 main categories
- Runner Up: Chili will be judged according to 5 main categories
- Spiciest: Chili will be judged according to Heat & Taste category
Best Overall and Runner Up will be judged on a 50 point scale, with 5 categories, each category being worth 10 points each. The Spiciest winner will be awarded to the chili with the highest points in the Heat & Taste category.
Criteria for Judging
- Taste: Taste is the most important factor. The taste should consist of a combination of meat and/or beans, spices, etc. and no particular ingredient should be overpowering.
- Aroma: Chili should smell good. This also indicates what’s in store when you taste it.
- Texture/Consistency: Chili must have a good ratio between sauce, meat, beans, and/or other ingredients. It should not be dry, watery, grainy, lumpy, or greasy.
- Heat & Taste: Looking for the spiciest chili but still maintaining flavor.
- Appearance: Chili should look appetizing.
