Weaving in and out of traffic and lapping strong contenders with ease, Kyle Larson put on a masterclass Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway on his way to winning the SciAps 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race.

Larson, driving the No. 17 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, led a race-high 277 laps, won for the second time in the Xfinity Series at Bristol and the 16th time in his career. The victory came a day after a runner-up finish in the WEATHER Guard Truck Race and a day before he starts third in the Food City 500 NASCAR Cup Series race.

“Thanks to everyone at [Hendrick Motorsports] for what they do,” said Larson after his celebratory burnouts at the start-finish line. “It’s just another really good car.

“I just love this place, especially in Xfinity. Moving around in the traffic is a lot of fun. I wish I could have won last night. We look forward to having a great car tomorrow.”

JR Motorsports swept the second, third and fourth finishing spots, with rookie Carson Kvapil in the No. 88 Chevrolet taking the runner-up spot, 2.054 seconds behind Larson.

“We made it better and better every pit stop,” Kvapil said. “There was so much traffic, it was hard to get anything done.”

Third-place finisher Justin Allgaier, the defending Xfinity Series champion, received a nice consolation prize by earning the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus for the seventh time in his career. Sammy Smith followed in fourth with Brandon Jones finishing fifth.

“It’s always great what Xfinity does for this sport,” Allgaier said. “I’m bummed a little but to come home third. It just felt like we needed a little bit more to keep up Kyle. His pace in traffic was phenomenal.”

Larson won the pole earlier Saturday with a lap of 126.287 mph in Bush’s Beans Qualifying.

The race was red-flagged nine laps before the conclusion of the opening stage following a hard frontstretch collision between Dash 4 Cash bonus contenders Brennan Poole and Sheldon Creed. Creed was spun and stalled in the middle of the track when a slowing Poole was unable to avoid contact.

“It knocked the air out of me there for a second,” said Creed, who finished 37th. “I’m happy to be ok. It just happens so quick here.”

“I was in the top lane and already back in the gas,” added Poole who was one spot better in 36th. “I just started slowing down and I saw [Creed] in the middle of the track. Hate that two Dash 4 Cash cars got into it.”

Larson completed the 300 laps around the .533-mile concrete oval at The Last Great Colosseum in 1 hour, 55 minutes and 45 seconds in the track’s 82nd Xfinity Series race.
